Given Tottenham Hotspur’s start to the 2019/20 campaign and our recent poor form and results, one thing that hasn’t gone away is the speculation linking people with departures – either in January or next summer – and with contract issues well known, the rumour mill seems to be gearing up more when it comes to Jan Vertonghen.
A recent report in The Guardian has suggested that Inter Milan have already made contact about the 32-year-old’s availability in January, but we have told them that he’s not for sale – presumably still hopeful of getting the Belgian tied down to a fresh deal – of course, in January though he could sign pre-contract terms with them and we would face losing another player on a free.
#thfc have informed Inter Milan that Jan Vertonghen will not be sold in January. The Italian club are now planning to offer the defender a three-year contract in the summer. | @FabrizioRomano pic.twitter.com/t3lF2igfH8

Given the current anger and frustration in the fanbase, added to Jan’s game time so far this year, plenty of fans feel that we would be looking to cash in on him in January as things stand, but understandably, not everyone agrees.
our team is getting picked apart one by one…

farewell jan, shame you didn’t help win us anything

rubbish. We’d happily get rid.

Loved Jan for years but the blokes deterioration this season has been staggering, lost a yard of pace and keeps finding himself out of position. 33 now surely cut our loses now and get something for him!

Why? The dropoff from last season to this is staggering. Wouldn’t it be better to cut our losses and find another defender. I’d be sad to see Jan leave but if he isn’t going to be putting in 100% then let him go

So you think the club will buy 2 new CBs next summer as well as a new LB and possibly new RB as well as paying off the rest of GLC’s fee and a replacement for Eriksen?
Jan is declining but this isn’t his current level and his XP is still needed. We can have him in rotation

The Italian culture/pace of the game will suit Jan to the ground. Regardless of the negativity associated with form, this guy has been a stellar signing, an excellent servant and a major component for #COYS progression over the
